IngrediZymes Functional Solutions, the new URV spin-off to bring functional ingredients to market
The Universitat Rovira i virgili has established the spin-off IngrediZymes Functional Solutions, SL, promoted by the Nutrigenomics Research Group of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, with the aim of strengthening the transfer to the market of innovative, natural functional ingredients obtained through sustainable processes derived from university research. The initiative responds to the growing demand for these ingredients in sectors such as human and animal functional nutrition, cosmetics, and veterinary nutrition, and will help optimize the transition from the laboratory to the market through a dedicated business structure.
IngrediZymes is based on methodologies that mimic natural digestive processes through the use of enzymes to transform raw materials of plant or animal origin-often by-products of the food industry-into ingredients with potential health benefits, which are scientifically validated before advancing to more in-depth study phases. The company's activity will combine a proprietary catalog of functional ingredients with customized development and scientific validation services for companies. The project is led by researchers Begoña Muguerza, Miquel Mulero, and Néstor Ibarz, who have extensive experience in knowledge transfer, and has received support from the URV Foundation's Technology Transfer Unit during its incorporation process.
